How Autonomous Mobile Robots Work

An AMR carries its own map and sensors and works out its own route, so it goes onto a floor that is already running. No tape, no wire, no track, and no rebuilding the aisles it drives down.

They navigate, they don't follow

The robot maps your facility and locates itself against that map as it drives, matching what its scanners see to what it already knows is there. The route is software, so changing it is a setting rather than a floor job.

Four OTTO autonomous mobile robots side by side in a facility: a pallet lifter, a large deck robot, and two cart movers

They work around people and obstacles

A stray pallet, a parked truck, someone crossing a doorway — it plans a way past and carries on. Safety-rated scanners give it a protective field it slows inside and stops within, which is what lets it share an aisle instead of living behind a fence.
